JONATHAN WILLIAMS PUBLISHER
HIGHLANDS

Cover collage: Fielding Dawson
Cover design: Jonathan Williams

From Gilbert Sorrentino: A Descriptive Bibliography, by William McPheron: "[The Darkness Surrounds Us] collects and arranges in roughly chronological order of composition the poems that GS wrote from 1957 to early 1960 and wanted to preserve...[Jonathan] Williams immediately agreed to publish DSU but only if GS would finance all costs, in return for which GS would receive all the money Williams took in from sales...no money was ever paid GS."
